Graves, Matthew

Graves, Matthew is a Senior Lecturer in British and Commonwealth Studies at the University of Provence (Aix-Marseille I) where he lectures in political and cultural history and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society associated with the political geography research group. His research interests lie in the fields of critical geopolitics and geopoetics and he has published widely on issues of space, place, memory and identity in late 19th-20th century British and Australian history, including several works on the narratives of travel and exploration. He notably conceived and co-edited Bruce Chatwin’s last book Anatomy of Restlessness (Penguin, 1996). In 2006, he was a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Sydney. He is currently editing two forthcoming companion volumes of articles on the Poetics and Politics of Mapping (Humanities Insights e-books) and Geographies of Identity (Presses universitaires de Provence) to be published alongside a study of Bruce Chatwin’s The Songlines (Humanities e-books).
