Sharp, Francis Michael

Sharp, Francis Michael: Professor emeritus of German at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. Earned his PhD at the University of California at Berkeley and taught for six years at Princeton University before returning to California. His general areas of interest have been German Expressionism as well as postwar literature in both Germany and Austria. Publications. His interest in Austrian poets and writers began with a dissertation, a book and several articles on Georg Trakl.  In the past few years he has published essays on Expressionist poetry, Max Frisch, Peter Handke, Thomas Bernhard, Martin Walser, Doron Rabinovici and Barbara Frischmuth in various journals and collections.  His translation of the Israeli-Austrian Doron Rabinovici’s first novel Suche nach M: Roman in zwölf Episoden was published as The Search for M in 1997.  His most recently published work is: “American Writers Reading Bernhard,” which appeared in: Trans: Internet-Zeitschrift für Kulturwissenschaften.
