Combination and understanding of cinematic and verbal narration
Kinga Balcsik-Tamás (Szeged) [Bio]
Trans-cultural genres and phenomena are very ordinary in 21st century’s cultural and social context. Expression of today’s issues and structures of mind and thinking of humanity at the present age requires these complicated multiple coded peaces of art. Artists in literature, dance, cinema, fine arts, music etc. tend to mix components of there works from many fields of art. An interesting point of reception is understanding of these genres. How is it possible to gain excess towards the meaning of these artistic “products”? This lecture of comparative literature reaches the topic of film’s and literature’s comparison and attempts to find answers of how narrative structures rise over cinematic and verbal representations of narration and how it constructs a different way of thinking towards interpretation of narratives. The research goes back to formations of literal short fiction that apply metafiction and self-reflection and follows with examination of there cinematic equivalents. Finally the lecture makes some suggestions for an interpretative method with that the receiver of multi-coded art works – for example combined verbal and cinematic narrations – may find a way of understanding.
