1. About the Conference

The goal of the Conference "The Unifying Aspects of Cultures" is to analyze and present the importance of culture in contemporary processes in a new way. In particular, the unifying (transnational) aspects of cultural processes will be examined. In this connection special attention will be given to the UNESCO-Documents Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and UNESCO and the Issue of Cultural Diversity 1946-2000 (see the texts about this in the framework of the portal The Unifying Aspects of Cultures).

2. Structure of the Conference

The full assembly is proposed for the basic aspects of the Conference: The Introduction, the Plenary Sections, the Workshops and the presentations of the results in the assembly. Up to ten hours are planned for the presentation of the results of the Workshops and the Assembly.

The intent is to give every participant the possibility of having everyone hear his or her argument and presentation directly or indirectly. It is a basic idea to structure the Conference in such a way that all scholars can participate by giving papers, if they wish to, and not only by contributing to the discussions. This is made possible by the large number of sections and of reports in the full assembly, respectively, as well as the possibility of publication on the WWW.

On the basis of this background the following structure of the Conference is proposed:

3. Proposals/Sections

The proposals you find here [www.inst.at/kulturen/konf2003_sektionen.htm] serve as orientation. In principle we are striving for more than 200 sections. They can be combined into clusters of sections (for example, according to the presently planned structure) and as such even form a larger assembly. Normally, however, we are planning on a section size of 5 to 35 participants..
