Gollmitzer, Mirjam

Gollmitzer, Mirjam is a PhD student at Simon Fraser University’s School of Communication in Vancouver, Canada. She has received a Master’s degree from the University of Waterloo (Canada,) and another graduate degree (equivalent to Master’s) from the Otto-Friedrich University in Bamberg (Germany). Moreover, Mirjam has worked as a news editor, print journalist and radio reporter for seven years, both in Germany and Canada. Her research interests are in media policy, international communication, and political journalism. In her PhD thesis, Mirjam critically explores audience participation and democratic deliberation in political talk shows. This policy-relevant comparative study of German and Canadian broadcast journalism is interested in television’s ability to help constitute a democratic public sphere.
