Klein, Thomas B.: Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern University, USA. Trained as a linguist in Germany and the United States. Ph.D. in linguistics at the University of Delaware. Research interests: language endangerment and revival, Creole studies, sociolinguistics, syntax, community-based language empowerment, theoretical analysis and description of speech sounds. Recent projects: phonology, textual analysis, anthropological linguistics of Gullah and Geechee and neighbouring English-lexicon varieties, phonological typology of Creole languages around the world. Field research in Europe, North America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Research grants in the United States and the United Kingdom. Publications: “Umlaut in Optimality Theory” (Niemeyer, 2000); articles in journals and edited volumes.
