Twentieth-Century Austrian Authors as Examples of the Unifying Aspect of Cultures

The Unifying Aspects of Cultures: Franz Werfels VerdiVerdi's music was for decades a unifying element for many peoples and for many cultures due to its world-wide popularity. With Wagner's ascendence, however, it is apparent that cultures and their audiences change, that Verdi no longer exclusively served as an intermediary between cultures. Popular artists are replaced or forgotten as the "culture" (and fashion) changes. This is also true of writers such as Werfel himself - the once-celebrated writer's works are seldom read today, and he no longer serves as a unifying element between cultures.
