Bericht: Liebe in der Literatur

Ulrich Müller (Universität Salzburg)

Six papers were presented dealing with "Love in Literature". Ulrich Müller (Salzburg: "Liebeslyrik - ‘Bruchstücke einer großen Konfession’"?) stressed that there was likely no fundamental difference between lyric poems about love in the European Middle Ages and Goethe: Both of them should be considered as a combination of "Erlebnislyrik" and "Rollenlyrik". Siegrid Schmidt (Salzburg: "Von liebenden Narren und närrischen Liebenden - Fragen der Beziehungen zwischen Mann und Frau in Sebastians ´Narrenschiff´") presented an interpretation of five chapters of Sebastian Brant’s "Narrenschiff" (1494) in which the author depicted different types of "folie", i.e. of madness of love. Yücel Güngörmüs (Egen University, Turkey: "Macht unterliegt Liebe. Vater-Tochter-Beziehung in Lion Feuchtwangers Roman "Jefta und seine Tochter") demonstrated how Lion Feuchtwanger (1884-1958) used the topic of the father-daughter-relations in his historical novel "Jefta und seine Tochter" (1957). Zeiko Uvanovic (University of Osijek, Croatia: "Kosmos, Alogisches, diesseitiges Chaos: Sprengung des persönlichen Rahmens in der Liebeslyrik von Yvan und Claire Goll") described how love poetry and life (=extra-marital affaires) of the two Golls influenced each other. Ruslana Berndl (Wien: "’Nichts bleibt mir ohne dich’: Zu einem Gedicht von Viktor Sosnora") presented an interpretation of a nearly surrealistic love poem composed by the Russian author Sosnora (b. 1936). Finally Kathleen Thorpe (University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa: "Marriage in Black and White") dealt with the breakdown of marriage in three novels from the First and Third Worlds (Marlene Steeruwitz, Mariama Bâ, Mary Okurut). The full texts of the papers of Müller, Uvanovic, Thorpe and Berndl are presented here.
