Ahcène ABDELFETTAH: After studying German as a foreign language at the University of Constantine (1974-1977), and completing his Magister Artium course in German studies and Romance studies at the Augsburg University (1977-1982), Professor Ahcène Abdelfettah obtained a PHD in 1988 with his thesis entitled „Rezeption der Französischen Revolution durch den deutschen öffentlichen Sprachgebrauch. Untersucht an ausgewählten historisch-politischen Zeitschriften (1789-1802)/Reception of the French Revolution by the German language in its public uses, research carried out on the basis of selected periodicals (1789-1802)).

Since 1999, he teaches in the University of Algiers 2s German department. In addition to his teaching activities, he was multiple times elected president of the Scientific Committee of the German Department (2001-2003), then became in order: member of the Institute of Foreign Languages Scientific Council ​​(1997-1999), permanent member of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Scientific Council ​​(since 2016), Head of the German branch (2010-2012), then Head of the Foreign Languages ​​domain (2013-2016).

In 2012, he directed the Department gathering German, Spanish, Italian and Russian languages. Since 2016, he has been directing the German PHD formation Committee.

His research interests mainly cover the history of foreign language teaching in Algeria, German sociolinguistics and discourse linguistic analysis.
